1. Use the Smartboard like a Whiteboard

Open Smartboard

  • Turn on your computer and turn on the Data Projector
  • Go to the Smartboard Notebook Software and open it.

Orient the board

  • On the Smartboard click on the two buttons that are on the pen tray at the same time
  • Click the spots consecutively until they are all gone (Usually nine spots)

Write/Erase on the Board

  • Pick up a pen and write as if you were using a whiteboard
  • Use the eraser as you would on a whiteboard

2. Become familiar with the Smartboard Toolbar

  • Right click anywhere on the toolbar to know the names of all the toolbar option.
  • Become especially familiar with the new page button, as well as the undo and redo buttons
  • Menus and Toolbars can be moved from top to bottom (bottom easier for children)
  • Expandable area can be moved right to left depending on personal preference
  • To change the Default Font Setting-Click on the text tool ( A) on the toolbar and select one of the six text settings. On the properties tab change the setting as you require (colour,size, font) and choose Save Tool Properties
  • Shape Recognition Pen -Draw something reasonably close to a given shape and it will automatically transform into that shape
  • Screen Shade & Cell Shade Use the ability to reveal aspects of a slide with screen shade. Focus learners on one specific area of the projected image.-Hide or cover a slide from top to bottom /side to side. In a multi-cell table you can you can shade one,any or all of the cells by right clicking on a cell and selecting the option -cell shade
  • Magic Pen -The pen Icon with stars around it.
  1. Draw a circle with it and it will put a spotlight on the circular spot and greys out the rest of the screen.
  2. Draw a rectangle it will Zoom in on the rectangular spot.
  3. Use it as a normal pen- the notes will fade in 10 seconds.






3. Next Stage

Notebook and PowerPoint

Import PowerPoint presentations quickly and easily into the SMART Notebook software
and add far greater interactivity to your content.
  • Go to File
  • Import and select the PowerPoint you need to import and wait.
  • Then use the interactivity that the whiteboarding software allows and that PowerPoint lacks.

Images and Text
  • Import copyright cleared content easily into the generic software.
  • Select the image or text you want to use
  • Drag to the whiteboard software file open on the taskbar.
  • Edit and annotate as you wish.
  • Use the extensive content that comes with the whiteboard. Look in the adjacent galleries for curriculum related images and interactive activities.This saves endless web searching.
Weblinks
Save valuable lesson time by adding web links to any object within a page to ensure that the pace of the lesson is maintained.
  • Click on the object
  • Select link from the drop down menus
  • Paste in the web address you would like to reference

Dual Display

Dual Display can be used for all subject areas
Math classes display one page as a word problem and the second page as clean workspace to figure the problem.
English classes can showcase an excerpt of a novel, poetry, or reading on one side then analyze the excerpt on the second page.


Page Recorder
  • Click on Properties
  • Press Page Recording
  • Press Start Recording -a red circle appears in the upper left corner
  • Perform the action that you want to record on the current page
  • When you have finish press Stop Recording -a play back toolbar appears on the page

Linking Applications

By linking to the .EXE of a program you can start that application within a Notebook file

Smart Notebook Express

Smart Notebook Express can be used with other brands of IWB and with an LCD projector. It is an online tool which enables the opening of Notebook files without downloading any software or using a login. You can also create and save your own Notebooks. It includes use of pen tools and text functions. You can sort pages, add or delete slides, move objects, or run flash files. Great for editing and sharing lessons with other user
